Comitato Omnia Vanitas
About Us
Sometimes we wonder about the meaning of our existence. Everyone finds their own answer. Loris Jacopo Bononi has chosen to dedicate his life to the (re)construction of a Dream.
Castiglione del Terziere, once one of the many abandoned villages and castles in Italy, risked becoming a ruin without memory. Thanks to the Professor's vision and determination, this place has come back to life, transforming into a treasure chest of history, art and culture.
Today Castiglione del Terziere is a place open to all, where children and adults can touch ancient books and works of art, living an experience that no traditional museum can offer. Here you can breathe the literary, historical and artistic memory of the people of Luni. It is a place to find peace, reflect and reconnect with your personal and collective history.
Our Commitment
With great enthusiasm, we announce the birth of “OMNIA VANITAS” – Comitato amici di Loris Jacopo Bononi – Castiglione del Terziere.
The Committee aims to preserve and enhance the immense historical, artistic and literary heritage left by Prof. Loris Jacopo Bononi. Our work is aimed at carrying forward his project, with the aim of establishing a Foundation that will safeguard his legacy and develop his activities.
If you wish to contribute to this dream and be part of our mission, you can join and subscribe to our project (see attached prospectus). We will always keep you updated on future initiatives and developments.
Thank you for your support and for everything you want to do.
Loris Jacopo Bononi
Loris Jacopo Bononi was born in Fivizzano on 12 June 1929. After completing his studies at the classical high schools of Pontremoli and Carrara, he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma, where he graduated in 1954. Following a brief but intense period as a general practitioner in the Lucido Valley (Municipality of Fivizzano), he decided to move to Rome. There, within a few years, he obtained the qualification of Lecturer in Microbiology and later in Chemotherapy, while also pursuing a career as an industrial executive in the pharmaceutical sector.
In a short time, he became the head of the Italian branch of Pfizer and, for a period, also held a leadership role in the United States. He continued his managerial career in Milan with Zambeletti and in Florence with Manetti & Roberts. Alongside his industrial work, he dedicated himself to university teaching at the University of Turin, where he held the Chair of Chemotherapy for thirty years.
During his years in Rome, he came into contact with prominent figures such as Licinio Cappelli, Luchino Visconti, and Federico Fellini, publishing three books that earned him recognition as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, according to the discerning critic Pier Paolo Pasolini.
In the 1970s, he restored the Castle of Castiglione del Terziere, in the municipality of Bagnone in Lunigiana, transforming it into a prestigious cultural centre and gathering thousands of first editions and numerous incunabula, driven by his belief that “books are the multitude of the heart.”
Loris Jacopo Bononi passed away on 12 November 2012 in Massa Carrara.
